Review

Best Choice Products 2 ton engine hoist is one of the cheapest 2 ton (4000 lb) engine hoists you will find on the market, it is even cheaper than some 1 ton hoists. The great price is what makes this engine hoist so popular among individual repairers, hobbyists and small workshop owners. Best Choice Products engine lifter may not provide the most outstanding build quality and durability but it certainly does its job, is packed with the same features as other engine hoists and is capable of lifting up to 2 ton heavy engines, transmissions and car parts.

Frame

The frame of this hoist is made from a high tensile steel in ¼ thickness. The frame is able to support loads up to 2 tons (4000 lb). The main frame of the hoist has two support plates for more stability and support when lifting loads close to the maximum lifting capacity. Engine lifter is foldable so parts like boom and legs can be folded closer to the frame of the hoist, so the unit takes up less space when stored.

Jack

The hydraulic jack on the Best Choice Products 2 ton hoists has got 8 ton (16000 lb) lifting capacity. This is a common practice for engine hoists to use hydraulic jacks with larger lifting capacity. Hydraulic ram is the most important lifting mechanism in the hoist and one that has the highest possibility of failing on heavy loads, that is why manufacturers put jacks with significantly higher capacity into hoists. The jack of this hoist works similar to other hoists jacks, it comes with a pumping bar that must be inserted into a special mount on the jack and load can be lifter by pumping this bar increasing the pressure inside the hydraulic cylinder. To lower a load there is a bleed valve on the bottom of the jack that must be carefully opened to lower a load and closed before lifting a load.

Legs and wheels

Engine lifter has got two legs that can be removed or folded. There are safety pins for legs that will hold them into position whether the hoist is in folded or unfolded state.

There are total of 6 casters under the legs. It is pretty common for 2 and more ton engine hoists to use 6 casters as it gives more stability for the lifting unit and allows to move it more easily. All 6 casters on this tools can rotate 360 degrees, so the hoist can be moved in practically any direction. This is useful when working in very small areas, where there may not be enough space to move a hoist freely around. 6 fully rotatable casters allow to move the lifter to front and back as well as left or right and even diagonally.

Boom

This engine hoist is equipped with an extendable boom with four extension positions:

  1. 2 ton (4000 lb);
  2. 1.5 ton (3000 lb);
  3. 1 ton (2000 lb);
  4. 0.5 ton (1000 lb).

At the end of the boom there is a chain and a hook where engine lifting chains or an engine leveler can be attached for engine lifting.

Size and weight

The dimensions of a folded hoist are approx. 31x29x50 inches (78x73x127 cm). The weight of the unit is 160 lb (73 kg). The maximum lifting height for the boom is 99 inches (2.5 meters) measured from the ground to the bottom of the hook.
