Performance Tool W41025 engine stand review
This engine stand is distributed by a company called Performance Tool and Abrasives that sells different lifting tools. Performance Tool W41025 is an engine stand with ½ ton (1000 lb) storage capacity. This tool can be used to store engine blocks for extended period of time. The engine stand allows to store an engine block, while making repairs to the car or to the engine block itself, allowing to rotate the engine stored on the stand, so you can access the engine block form various angles.
Performance Tool W41025 engine stand is made from a heavy duty steel tubes The construction of the stand consists of multiple square shaped steel tubes that are welded or mounted together with durable steel screws. The engine stand comes dismounted in a box and will require you to assemble the unit. The assembly of the tool is pretty easy, as the too is very simple un should take you less than a half an hour. One thing to note is that few users have reported missing bolts when receiving the stand, but this depends on the company that does the shipping of the tool and should not be a major problem, because you can get all necessary bolts at almost any hardware store for couple of bucks.
The steel construction of the stand indeed is durable and shouldn’t have any problems holding up to ½ ton (1000 lb) heavy engine blocks, but we did not like the welds as they did not look very quality and might be the weak point of this engine stand. If don’t have a very heavy engine block that needs to be stored on the stand this should not be a problem, but if you need to store a large v8 engine block with capacity close to ½ ton (1000 lb), I would suggest that you purchase a more durable engine stand.
Mounting plate and arms
Performance Tool and Abrasives W41025 engine stand features a rotating head with lifting plate and 4 adjustable lifting arms that can be aligned to fit different engine blocks. The head of the stand can be rotated 360 degrees, allowing to access an engine block stored on the stand from different angles. The rotating head can be fixated into 6 positions using a locking pin on the top of the head. Behind the head there is a steel handle with soft rubber grip that eases the rotation of an engine. The head can be rotated pretty easily with lighter engine blocks stored on the stand but will be more difficult to rotate when storing a more heavier engine, so we suggest putting a grease on the rotating head.
Legs and wheels
The engine hoist features a single leg design and has got 4 casters. The both front casters can be rotated 360 degrees for increased movement and both rear casters can only move to front and back. The casters of this engine stand are durable and move freely even when handling a load.
Size and weight
The size of Performance Tool W41025 engine stand is 35×8.2×8 inches (89×20.8×20 cm) packed and weight of the tool is 50 lb (22 kg).
- Good price for a ½ ton (1000 lb) stand, costing a bit less than 90 dollars
- Durable and stable design, should work with most smaller and medium sized engines blocks
- Quality swivel casters that moves freely even when holding a load
- Welding spots look to have less quality, so we don’t recommend to use the stand to store larger and heavier engine blocks with capacity of ½ ton (1000 lb) or close
