Torin T24541 engine stand review
If you have every looked for an engine stand, engine hoist or other lifting equipment, you must have heard of a brand called Torin Jack. This is their mid-range engine stand that can be used to store engines with weight up to ½ ton (1000 lb), so it can be used with most v4 and v6 engine blocks.
The construction of Torin T24541 engine stand is very simple and reminds few other engine stands with similar capacity. This is probably due to a fact that most of todays mass sold lifting tools are made in China, so large companies like Torin Jacks only designs the stand, while they might get assembled in same factories as lifting tools for other companies.
All in all, the stand feels sturdy and stable and will hold engine block without difficulties. The weight is balanced throughout the stand so it feels stable and is easy to move even when an engine block is stored on the stand.
Torin engine stand comes dismantled and you will have to assemble the tool. Right away we can say that the assembly instructions of the stand are useless and will not give you any useful tips of how to assemble the stand, so assembly might take a bit longer time than with other stands. Stand comes packed in a cardboard box, which multiple users have reported is pretty damaged when they received it and some users even say that the stand comes with missing parts, but contacting the company or shop you bought the tool from should help if you encounter any problems with shipping and packaging of the stand.
Mounting plate and arms
Engine stand has got a 360 degree rotating mounting head with 4 adjustable mounting arms. Mounting arms can be adjusted to fit different engines. The stand doesn’t come with bolts to mount an engine to the stand, because different engine blocks need different length and durability mounting screws, so you will have to spend few more bucks to buy mounting screws. As mentioned the head of the stand can be rotated 360 degrees around to allow you to access engine from every side to perform repairs.
Legs and wheels
Torin T24541 engine stand has got a single leg design with total of 4 casters – 2 on the front post and 2 on the back post of the stand. Front casters can be turned 360 degrees around to increase the maneuverability of the stand, while rear casters cannot be turned around and allow to move the stand only forward and back. This engine stand rolls very easily, even when it is holding a load. 4 wheel design not only allows to move the stand easier, but also provides better stability than 3 wheeled engine stands.
