This receiver hitch mountable hoist is manufactured by a company called Maxxtow Towing Products. The hoist comes with an adjustable boom with 3 positions and can lift maximum of 1/2 ton (1000 lb) heavy loads. Maxxtow Towing Products 70238 hoist has got unique design, because although this is a truck mountable hoist, it also is portable and can be simply attached or detached from a truck. This is not the cheapest of hoists, but isn’t either expensive, costing below 300 dollars. The hoist can be used for various tasks for example moving heavy electronics such as generators, lifting engine and other car parts as well as heavy tools, or for lifting wood logs, concrete blocks and other heavy stuff. The pin installation system allows to quickly attach and remove the hoist from a truck, without needing for additional tools or drilling holes to attach the hoist.

Frame

The construction of Maxxtow Towing Products 70238 truck hoist is made from a heavy duty steel, the hoist felt durable but we didn’t like the pain job of the tool. The crane can be separated into smaller parts, which makes the transportation as well as installation of the tool easier, because overall the tool is pretty heavy to handle, especially if you have to assemble and use the unit just by your self. The assembly of the unit is quite easy thanks to the pin system, however, it is quite difficult for a single person to do, so it requires two persons for assembling the tool faster. The crane of the hoist swivels 360 degrees so you can lift and lower loads from various points. As mentioned you can completely disassemble the unit to store it somewhere in you garage or just place it in the back of your truck. Overall, this engine hoist is very heavy for a portable tool, however it will take much less space than a regular engine hoist, so get this truck mountable hoist if the features of the tool fits your requirements.

Legs and truck mount

The hoist has got a long steel mount, so it sits on one side on the back of the truck. Maxxtow 70238 engine hoist has got two adjustable legs, which allow to adjust the height of the hoist to fit trucks, which have different hitch receiver heights. The hoist mounts in a standard 2 inch hitch receiver. As mentioned installation and removal of the tool is pretty simple thanks to a quick release pin system.

Jack and boom

Maxxtow Towing Products truck mounted hoist features a hydraulic jack for lifting loads. This is not the fastest or the most durable jack we have seen, however, it works good for this hoist and can lift heavy weights without problems.

The hoist also features and adjustable boom with 4 adjustment positions:

  1. 1/2 ton (1000 lb);
  2. 3/8 ton (750 lb);
  3. 1/4 ton (500 lb);

At the end of the boom there is a chain and a hook, where you can attach loads. The maximum lifting range of the boom is 30-84 inches ( 0.76-2.13 m) from the ground. The length of the boom is 43 inches (109 cm).

Size and weight

The size of Maxxtow Towing Products 70238 hoist is approx. 54x22x9 inches (137x56x23 cm) and weight of the tool is 136 lb (61 kg).
